Before you start receiving fruit, it is important to understand a few basic terms used in the system:
Parent and Child Pallets:
The original pallet you start sorting is the "Parent". When you separate that fruit into different firmnesses, the system creates new "Child" pallets. Child pallets keep the original pallet ID but add the firmness to the end (e.g., original pallet 123 becomes 123-Breaking and 123-Orange).
Firmness Categories:
We grade fruit into four main categories: Hard, Breaking, Orange, and Green. It is critical to keep these separate so they ripen correctly.
Bag/Crate Sort vs. Standard Sort:
Bags and crates arrive from suppliers and must be unpacked into cartons. A standard sort is just moving fruit from cartons to other cartons based on firmness.
Balancing:
A simple rule: the amount of fruit you start with must equal the amount you end with. The expected amount must equal the actual amount of cartons. Expected Quantity = Selected pallet quantity. Actual amount = New Child Pallets + Leftover fruit + Waste

Goal:
To pick a pallet and begin the sorting timer.
Steps:
Open the Sorting Module and look at the "Available to Sort" list.
Select the pallet from the list, or search for its Pallet ID and select 'Begin sort'.
Select the type of sort you are doing (e.g., Standard Carton Sort, or Bag/Crate Sort).
What Happens Next?:
The sorting timer starts, and the pallet moves to the "In Progress" tab.

Goal:
To log the fruit's firmness and size as you work.
Steps:
As you sort, the system breaks the work into Time Intervals (every 30 minutes).
At each interval, count the fruit you have sorted.
Enter the number of cartons sorted into each firmness category (Hard, Breaking, Orange, Green) and their matching sizes (Extra Large, Large, Medium, Small) if bag sort.
Log any Waste or Non-Conforming fruit found during this specific interval.
Save the interval.
What Happens Next?: The system tallies the fruit. You can continue to the next time interval.

Goal:
To finalize the event, verify the quantities, and generate the new child pallets.
Steps:
Once the entire pallet is sorted, click End Sorting Event.
Review the Sorting Summary. The system will compare your starting quantity with your total sorted output.
The Balancing Check: If your output (sorted fruit + waste) does not match your starting input, the system will flag a discrepancy (an Overpack or Underpack).
If there is a discrepancy, you must type a reason into the required field (e.g., "Supplier underpacked the original pallet" or "Extra waste not recorded").
Click Complete Sort.
What Happens Next?:
The system permanently saves the event and generates the new "Child Pallets". You must now print the new QR codes and place them on the newly sorted pallets

If the system returns you to the input screen after clicking Complete Sort, review the firmness values you've entered. Once you've identified the incorrect value, click Reopen Sort at the bottom of the screen before making any changes. Editing the values without reopening the sort will not update the event correctly.

This usually means there's an overpack or underpack that hasn't been explained. Enter a balancing reason where prompted, then try completing the sort again.
