Before you start receiving fruit, it is important to understand a few basic terms used in the system:
Finished Product:
The final, packed pallet that is ready for the customer. When you finish packing, the system creates a brand-new Finished Product Pallet with its own unique Pallet ID (starting with "FP-") and QR code.
Client Groups:
Retail: Fruit packed into punnets, which are then packed into lugs (e.g., Checkers/Freshmark orders).
Hospitality: Fruit that stays in 4kg cartons (e.g., Green Dot or Orange Dot orders).
Blended Pack: When you need to mix fruit from two different origin pallets to complete a single order. The system links both original pallets to the new finished product so traceability is never lost.
Leftover Stock:
If you only use half of a pallet to pack your order, the remaining fruit stays associated with its original Pallet ID. You do not need to create a new pallet for the leftovers.
Balancing Check:
The system automatically calculates how many cartons you should have used to make your lugs. If the numbers don't perfectly match what you physically have left over, it flags a discrepancy (Overpacking or Underpacking) that you must explain.
Goal:
To set up the system for the specific customer order you are about to pack.
Steps:
Open the Packing Module and click New Finished Product.
Select the Client Group (Retail or Hospitality), the Class (Class 2 or Class 3), and the specific Product you are packing.
Enter the total Quantity needed for this order (e.g., 50 lugs).
Important: If you are going to use fruit from two different pallets for this order, toggle Will this be a blended pack? to Yes.
Click Create/Next.
Quick Notes:
The type of pack is determined by which class is selected. Class 2 fruit will trigger a retail pack (cartons to punnets) and class 3 fruit will trigger a hospitality pack(carton to carton).
For Class 2 (retail) packs, the system automatically calculates retention sample amount and adds it to the final quantity needed to be packed.
What Happens Next?: The event is created, and the system shows you a list of available pallets in the facility that match your selected class and product.
Goal:
To pick the physical pallets you will use and verify the fruit is still healthy.
Steps:
From the list of available pallets, identify which pallet you'd like to use.
Before you can pack, you must perform a Quality Inspection, but first you must confirm the movement of the pallet into the packing area. Press the three dots on the chosen pallet and confirm movement.
Conduct a Quality Inspection by pressing the three dots on the chosen pallet again and begin the inspection.
Perform a quick firmness and damage check on the fruit and upload a photo of the fruit on the sorting table.
Once the quality inspection is succesfully done, press the three dot menu on the pallet and begin packing.
Quick Note: The system will autmatically filter pallets depending on the type of packing event. Class 2/retail packs will only display class 2 pallets and class 3/hospitality packs will show class 3 pallets. You can remove this filter by pressing the 'x' on the filter card above the pallets.
What Happens Next?: Once the QC is approved, the "Begin Packing" button unlocks.
Goal:
To physically pack the order and record the exact quantities used and wasted.
Steps:
Physically pack the avocados into their lugs or cartons.
On the tablet, enter the exact amount of Waste (Cartons) you threw away during this specific packing session.
Enter the exact Remaining Quantity of cartons left on your origin pallet(s).
Enter the total number of Lugs Produced (if doing a Retail order).
Click Calculate to trigger the Balancing Check of expected vs actual cartons used to make the lugs.
Quick Note:
For retail packing events, expected cartons used is calculated based on the lugs produced quantity. Actual cartons used is calculated based on the selected pallets original quantity minus waste minus remaining pallet quantity.
What Happens Next?:
The system compares your outputs with your inputs, and displays a status (underpack, overpack, balanced).
Goal:
To explain any quantity differences, finalize the event, and print labels.
Steps:
Look at the Summary screen. If your math is perfect, it will say "Balanced".
If it says "Overpacking Detected" or "Underpacking Detected", a text box will appear. You must type in a clear reason for the discrepancy (e.g., "Supplier underpacked the original boxes" or "Extra waste not accounted for").
Click Next then Finish/Complete Packing.
The system will take you back to the pallet list to either select another pallet to pack with or end then event.
Follow the steps above to pack another pallet.
To end a packing event, press Complete packing event in the top right corner.
The system will then prompt you to assign the final product pallet to a location.
What Happens Next?:
The Finished Product pallet moves to the selected module. The leftover stock goes back into the system's available inventory.
If the system returns you to the input screen after clicking Complete Sort, review the firmness values you've entered. Once you've identified the incorrect value, click Reopen Sort at the bottom of the screen before making any changes. Editing the values without reopening the sort will not update the event correctly.
This usually means there's an overpack or underpack that hasn't been explained. Enter a balancing reason where prompted, then try completing the sort again.
